The right amount of stress can help us to focus but too much stress can cause panic. Here are a few tips to help you to prepare for exams and alleviate the feelings of stress.
Plan revision in advance – draw up a timetable and set reasonable, achievable goals. Don’t forget to factor in exercise and time for relaxation.
Chose a good place to study – a comfortable, well-lit and well-ventilated room away from distractions
Put..…the..…phone..…away! Mobile phones are a terrible distraction so have study time well away from texts, Instagram etc!
Eat healthily. Research smart food and ensure you are eating food that will keep you in the best possible health.
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is the best way to ensure the best cognitive performance.
Get plenty of sleep. Let your brain use this time to consolidate the learning and keep you fresh.
Make sure you know exactly when and where your exams are to avoid a last minute panic.
Once in the exam, read the question paper carefully – don’t just dive in and start writing. Make sure you are on the right track to answer the question being asked.
If you do begin to panic, take 3 deep breaths – just concentrate on the air going in and out and relax your shoulder muscles. Once your brain registers that you are beginning to relax, you will be able to think properly.
Good luck!
